Travel tips
The department of Hérault is a beautiful region in France with a lot to offer. If you have the possibility to take some more days off, we would really recommend exploring this region. Here are some of the cities that you can explore:
Montpellier
Montpellier is the capital of Hérault and we personally think it is one of the best cities in France. Montpellier is a real student city. You can spot a lot of people cycling here, something you don't see much often in France. In addition to the fact that the city is young and bustling, Montpellier also has many historic buildings. The historic city center has many narrow streets with shops and sights, so there is a lot to see. Montpellier is a perfect destination for a city trip!
Pézenas
Pézenas is the closest city to Saint Thibery (only 9 minutes by car from the hotel), and therefore really worth a visit. It used to be a fortified city that had an important role in the cloth trade. Later the city grew further into a real market town and the city also attracted artists and writers. Nowadays the city is still known as a city of art. The weekly market is very nice to visit. The historic character has been preserved, it's a lot of fun to walk through the cozy streets.
Agde / Cap d'Agde
Agde is an ancient Greek city with a rich history located at the Mediterranean Sea. The name comes from the Greek 'Agathos', which means 'beautiful' or 'good'. In the old center you can find many nice shops and restaurants. Agde is also a real seaside resort. With several nice places to visit nearby you can have a great time here, not to mention all the beautiful beaches in Cap d'agde. Fun fact: Cap d'Agde is actually the biggest naturist resort in the world! For those looking to spend their holiday in total harmony with nature, the Cap d'Agde Naturist Village is the place to be :)
Béziers
Béziers is a city with a picturesque appearance. Visit the old part of the city with the Saint-Nazaire cathedral, situated on a hill. This is truly a beautiful cathedral and a great example of the Gothic architecture. In addition, the city has two old arenas. The city itself has flourished from the income of tourism and wine production.
Sète
Sète is an important port for trade and also has one of the largest fishing ports of France. The harbor is very cute and cozy with the colorful houses, bridges, boats and restaurants. The town looks a bit like Venice because of its many canals and bridges. Near Sète are a number of beautiful beaches.
Other cities a bit further away that are also great to explore are:
Saint-Guilhelm-le-Désert
Saint Guilhem le Desert, one of the most beautiful and pittoresque villages of France, is found 20 km east of Lodève and north-west of Montpellier in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. In the Gellone Valley, it is in a beautiful and remote location, surrounded by the wild and rugged countryside of the Herault Gorges, with steep slopes and cliffs poised high over the village. If you have enough time, this village is really worth a visit!
Carcassonne
To visit Carcassonne is to take a journey back in time to 2500 years ago. Nestled at the top of a hill, the Medieval City dominates the whole city and is said to be one of the best preserved medieval ensembles in the world. Come and discover this jewel of the French history and stroll through its charming streets and alleys. It is a real immersion in the Middle Ages.
Nîmes
The city of Nîmes is a fascinating construction, built around and with the existing Roman monuments. The city owes its identity, personality and singularity to this ancient architecture developed over the centuries, infusing it with exceptional universal value. The city evokes the image of the ultimate Roman city, with both the rich collection of classical monuments and the originality of its urban network which have grown together harmoniously over time.
